A support forum,
priced like one.

Bettermode sells a whole community platform: spaces, feeds, events, apps. Forumcat does one job. Customers ask, your team answers, and every answer becomes a page people can find.

If you searched for Tribe, that is Bettermode now. Same product, newer name, so Tribe community platform reviews and Bettermode reviews describe the same tool.

What each one is for

Two different sizes of the same idea

Bettermode is a community platform. It bundles spaces, feeds, events, roadmaps and apps. It is built for teams running a whole community program. If that is the job, it is a serious tool and it does a lot.

Forumcat is smaller on purpose. It is a public place for customer questions and staff answers. You get search, votes, accepted solutions, private questions, and five roles. There is no feed to fill and no space to design.

Pick the big one if a community program is the plan for this year. Pick this one if the plan is to stop answering the same question twice.

What people say

What buyers weigh before they sign

Bettermode is polished, and people say so. These are the public comments that come up most when teams compare it. They are about price, add-ons, and how much platform was in the box.

Price shape, API, and setup

Only numbers we can source are in the Bettermode column. Where we could not source a fact, the cell says so instead of guessing.

Bettermode figures come from public reviews, as of Jul 2026. The $50 to $399 change and the removed free plan are from trustpilot.com. "API access costs $199/month extra" is from group.app. Tribe community platform pricing and Bettermode pricing describe the same product. Check their site for current numbers before you decide.

API and agents

The API is not an add-on here

Every capability is a REST call with an OpenAPI spec, and the same capability is an MCP tool. Both are on Basic and on Pro.

That means your own agent can read questions, draft an answer, and post it for a human to stand behind. Point Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or something you wrote yourself at it.

Keys carry a role, and a read-only switch, so a script gets exactly the access you meant to give it.

  • REST API and hosted MCP server, on every plan
  • API keys with a role and a read-only switch
  • Connect a hosted AI client by URL, no key handling
  • No AI answer bot here. A person still posts the answer

Connected agents: an app approved to answer over MCP, with the role it was given and no API key needed.

The portal

What your customers actually see

One page with the questions, search, categories and tags. Solved threads are marked. Nothing to learn, and no account needed to read.

demo.myforumcat.com
A customer portal home page: a list of questions with vote counts, solved badges, search, and category and tag filters.

Your logo, your accent color, your domain. The pages are server rendered, so Google and AI engines can read every answer.

Quick answers

The things teams check before they switch

  • Can customers read without an account?YesYes. Reading and searching are open to everyone.
  • Can we run it on our own domain?YesYes, on Pro, with SSL set up for you.
  • Can a question be private?YesYes, and whole categories can start private.
  • Can the whole support team answer?YesYes. Five roles, and staff replies show the role.
  • Can we keep our analytics?YesYes. Paste your existing script into the portal head.
  • Can we erase a customer for GDPR?YesYes. Erasure is a button, not a support ticket to us.

All of it is on both plans, except the custom domain and the higher caps.

There is no importer

If you already run a Bettermode or Tribe community, you cannot bring the posts across. No importer exists, from any tool.

Teams that switch start fresh, write their ten most-asked answers, and let real questions build the rest. It takes a few weeks and the archive is cleaner for it.

FAQ

Fair questions

Is Tribe the same thing as Bettermode?

Answer

Yes. Tribe became Bettermode, so a Tribe community platform alternative and a Bettermode alternative are the same search. This page compares that product with ours.

How fast can we be live?

Answer

About five minutes. Sign in, name your portal, and it is online at yourcompany.myforumcat.com. Nothing to install.

What does it cost in month twelve?

Answer

The same as month one. $9 one time for a portal on a Forumcat subdomain, or $99 a month for your own domain. The bill never grows with traffic or questions.

Do we pay extra for the API?

Answer

No. The REST API and the MCP server are on Basic and Pro at no extra cost. There is no plan that switches them off.

Who can see a private question?

Answer

Only the person who asked it and your team. Whole categories can be private too, so every question posted there starts private.

Can we import our old forum or help docs?

Answer

Not today. There is no importer. Most teams start fresh and let the new questions build the archive, which is live in minutes.

What happens to our answers if we leave?

Answer

They are yours. Every question and answer is readable through the REST API, so you can pull it all out any time.
